At Connect Psychological Services, we offer a range of traditional and third wave cognitive-behavioural therapies (CBT) suitable to your individual needs. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) combines mindfulness and behavioural therapy to cultivate psychological flexibility. ACT is about being present, open, and engaged while facing life's inevitable challenges. ACT is driven by values-based decision making, even when confronting difficult emotions. ACT teaches us how to observe and unhook from automatic thinking patterns and reactive behaviours to live a more intentional life based on our values. Schema Therapy addresses maladaptive core beliefs and coping mechanisms stemming from our childhood experiences. Through Schema Therapy, we learn to recognize and rescript unhelpful self-concepts and ways of relating/coping. Traditional Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) may be used to address acute trauma, and/or complex developmental traumas.

Forensic ("Risk") Assessments may be requested for court or other purposes (e.g., immigration issues, travel waivers, etc). Forensic Risk Assessments typically involve the following: two to three clinical interviews (each 2 hours); collateral contact with reference(s); file review (e.g., criminal record, offence synopsis, agreed statement of facts, victim statements, medical records, etc.); completion of psychological assessment measures; structured risk analysis; and report writing. These assessments summarize personal history, mental health status/history/diagnoses, and risk-relevant variables to yield information regarding risk level and potential treatment needs. Risk assessments typically require 15-20 hours to produce.

The fee for a Forensic Risk Assessment is $330/hour, as recommended by the Psychologists Association of Alberta (PAA).

I am a Canadian Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, licensed with the College of Alberta Psychologists since 2004. I have a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary (2003). I have experience working in community clinics, inpatient settings, correctional facilities, and private practice. I have many years of experience preparing pre-sentence court reports, providing psychological assessments, and conducting individual and group cognitive-behavioural therapy. I am a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), and I have extensive experience in assessing and treating problematic sexual interests and behaviours. Over the years I have enjoyed supervising clinical staff, psychology interns, and practicum students. My research interests have focused on vulnerability to depression, group cognitive-behavioural therapy and mindfulness for mood and anxiety disorders, and more recently outcomes related to childhood adversity and correlates of child sexual exploitation material offending.

My primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive-behavioural, although I routinely blend approaches to meet my client’s individual needs. I have training and experience with the following therapeutic approaches: Motivational Interviewing; Schema Therapy; Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT); Interpersonal Therapy; Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT); Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS); Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR); Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My therapeutic style is warm, respectful, non-judgemental, and collaborative.
